Hardware Selection > Overview

This section is intended to help you determine
which hardware is appropriate for your specific situation. If you’re
considering functional shutters and haven’t reviewed the installation
situations page, you will want to visit that page to determine your situation.

Hardware Selection
You will
be considering one of two options:
- Decorative installation – the shutters affix directly to the structure,
will not function and any associated hardware will serve for appearance only.
If this is your situation, go to visible hardware selection.
- Functional Installation – the shutters are intended to swing from
the open to the closed position and hopefully be locked when appropriate.

Functional Shutters and Hardware
Functional shutters, and thus related
hardware, fall into two categories:
- Historic restoration , where existing shutters are replaced or replicated.
In this case the original installation will most probably dictate shutter
placement and hardware selection.
- New construction affords you the opportunity to tailor a shutter/hardware
solution that best fits your needs.
